John replied, "If you have two shirts, give one to the poor. if you have food, share it with those who are hungry." Luke 3:11
We've been taking part in the Midnight Run, a mission to feed and clothe the homeless in New York City, several times a year since 2010.
Under the leadership of Pastor Jeff, youth and adult volunteers participate in preparing food and sorting clothing donations and toiletries. The Midnight Run organization is a not-for-profit program run out of Dobbs Ferry, N.Y., and has been serving the homeless for many years. Other organizations such as churches like ours sign up to go on a run, typically by loading supplies and food into a Midnight Run van and making pre-arranged stops on an itinerary in Manhattan.
The concept is a simple one...to bring human interaction and comfort to people who everyday are ignored, vilified, scapegoated and stepped over. Several times a year, the congregation is asked for donations of seasonal clothing and toilet articles to take to the homeless.
